#9: Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine
Henry met Eleanor shortly after her marriage to Louis VII was annulled, and the connection was immediate. Their 1152 union was political on the surface, but it quickly took on a far more personal charge. Together, they built power across Europe and raised a famously complicated family, yet admiration often collided with rivalry. Eleanor’s later support of her sons’ rebellion led to her confinement, turning affection into open conflict. Still, their bond never fully faded.
