#11: A Doll in Special Clothes
A doll could carry more personality than anyone expected. It might be an old baby doll, a fashion doll, a handmade doll, a doll from another country, or one dressed in clothes sewn by a mother, grandmother, aunt, or the child presenting it. The special clothes were often the real story: a tiny dress for church, a holiday outfit, a knitted sweater, a costume, or matching pajamas. Children introduced dolls as if they were people, giving names, ages, likes, dislikes, and sometimes a dramatic backstory nobody had asked for, but everyone accepted.
