#15: A Record or Cassette
A record or cassette told the classroom what kind of music lived at your house. That could be exciting, embarrassing, or both. Some kids brought a children’s album; a Disney soundtrack; a rock cassette borrowed from an older sibling; a country tape from the family car; or a 45 rpm single in a paper sleeve. The object itself had charm. A record had grooves and a label. A cassette had tiny screws, spools, and the constant danger of tape unspooling like a party streamer.
