#19: A Handmade Craft
A handmade craft had a different kind of shine because it came with evidence of effort. It might be a popsicle-stick house, a potholder from a loom kit, a clay animal, a painted rock, a paper-mâché globe, a yarn doll, a bead necklace, or something made with far too much glue. The child presenting it usually explained the process, sometimes in more detail than the object seemed to require. First, you cut this. Then you glued that. Then it had to dry overnight. Then one side fell off, but it was fixed. That was the beauty of it.
