#2: Star Wars (1977)
By 1977, audiences had seen plenty of science fiction, but Star Wars made space feel like Saturday afternoon adventure had been blasted into a new era. George Lucas filled the screen with farm boys, smugglers, princesses, droids, strange creatures, and a mythic struggle between good and evil. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, and C-3PO became names that traveled from movie theaters into lunchboxes, playgrounds, bedrooms, and family conversations.
