#13: Carnelian
Ancient Egyptians routinely placed bright carnelian amulets directly on the chests of mummies to protect the soul during its dangerous transit through the afterlife. Islamic traditions subsequently recorded that the Prophet Muhammad wore a carnelian signet ring on his right hand, cementing its regional sacred status. The warm, translucent stone represented the protective fire of the sun.
