Medieval Catholic clergy wore rich blue sapphires specifically because they believed the stone effectively suppressed physical lust, promoted absolute chastity, and directly represented the architecture of heaven. The elite gem was also highly prized by royal courts for its supposed biological capability to instantly neutralize lethal poisons. The crystal stood as a symbol of unblemished moral clarity.
