Strange and unusual stories from American national parks

Along California’s Santa Lucia Mountains, some hikers and residents have reported seeing tall, shadowy figures standing along distant ridgelines at sunset. These figures, known as the Dark Watchers, appear motionless and vanish when approached. Optical illusions, shifting shadows, and atmospheric haze are common explanations.
