#15: Rose Island Was a Floating Nation Destroyed by Italy
The Republic of Rose Island (1968) was built by Italian engineer Giorgio Rosa as a floating platform in the Adriatic Sea. Originally designed as a tourist attraction, Rosa later declared it independent and planned to issue currency. Italian authorities suspected a tax scheme, removed the occupants, and destroyed the structure with explosives.
