#4: The Principality of Sealand Started as a World War II Platform
The Principality of Sealand (1967) began as a British military platform built during World War II to defend shipping lanes. Paddy Roy Bates later occupied it and declared it an independent country after a legal case suggested the platform was outside British waters. Sealand still issues currency and documents but has no official recognition.
