Adrian Carton de Wiart was wounded repeatedly across the Boer War and both World Wars. He lost an eye and a hand, survived plane crashes, and escaped from prison camps. In his memoir Happy Odyssey (1950), he famously wrote that he frankly enjoyed the war.
