Autry Avenue in Lakewood honors singing cowboy Gene Autry (1907-1998), one of the most popular Western stars of the 1930s and 1940s. Autry became famous through films like Tumbling Tumbleweeds (1935) and helped define the cowboy hero image. He later became a successful businessman and baseball team owner.
