Yasmeen Ghauri Then
Yasmeen Ghauri is a Pakistani-German model who grew up in Quebec, Canada. As a child, she was bullied for her Pakistani heritage, which was a huge blow to her self-esteem. However, while working at McDonald’s, Montreal hairstylist Platine Coiffure discovered the teenager and helped her start her modeling career.
Her parents, who were strict Muslims, originally disapproved of her decision to become a model, but they saw that she had great success after debuting in Milan and Paris. In 1990, she moved to New York and helped launch the “Canadian invasion” movement. In the early 1990s, she was the face of Valentino, Versace, and had a contract with Victoria’s Secret.
