#14: First Comic Book Superhero: Superman (1938)
When Superman debuted in Action Comics #1 in June 1938, he became America’s first real superhero. Clark Kent’s alter ego, Superman, could fly and had incredible strength, and embodied the American values of truth and justice. He was just the hero folks needed during the final days of the Great Depression and as the United States was poised to enter World War II.
