Amanda Beard
Amanda Beard took home seven medals after attending three Olympic Games in 1996, 2004, and 2008. Her greatest feat in competitive swimming would be holding the world record for the quickest 200-meter breaststroke. After failing to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, Amanda decided to retire from the sport.
On the surface, Amanda appeared to be the perfect swimmer and model. She also supported PETA’s anti-fur efforts while appearing as a junior correspondent for Fox. However, in her autobiography, In the Water They Can’t See You Cry, she described the challenges facing unreasonably high expectations while also being emotionally vulnerable.
