Betsy Mitchell
Like many of her peers, Betsy Mitchell was a record holder on top of being an Olympic medalist. She represented the US in 1984 and 1988, winning gold and silver medals in Los Angeles and two silvers in Seoul. Shortly after coming home from South Korea, she officially announced her retirement.
After her competitive swimming career came to an end, she enrolled in a one-year program at Harvard to earn a certificate in educational administration. Betsy coached the Dartmouth College swimming team for seven years before becoming the director of athletics at Laurel School in Ohio. Today, she holds the same position but at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
