Eels can survive in oxygen-poor environments by using both gills and skin for respiration. Some species can even travel across land in search of water. Their bodies remain moist to facilitate oxygen absorption. This allows them to survive temporarily without aquatic oxygen. Eels are highly adaptable in changing environments. Their movements are efficient and purposeful. They avoid conditions that become too extreme. Their survival strategy combines mobility and physiology. Eels demonstrate flexibility in respiration. They are among the most adaptable fish species.
