Egypt’s Luxor Temple was also harmed
This is what we consider to be the world’s oldest tourist-damaged item. The Luxor Temple is 3,500 years old, with some rare items inside. Inside the Luxor Temple, a 15-year-old Chinese kid noticed a depiction of an ancient Egyptian man carrying a spear and decided he, too, wanted to go down in history.
“Ding Jinhao was here,” he wrote in Chinese. It was too late by the time another Chinese traveler noticed this. The damage had already been done. He did, after all, make history, if not in the way he had hoped.
