Locals are sometimes the ones who cause problems
We all want to cast the finger at tourists, yet residents are sometimes the ones who break the rules. In 2017, a Chinese citizen went on a tour of his homeland, stopping at a cave in South-East China. The deed was captured on camera, with a young man kicking the ancient 10-million-year-old stalagmite and causing it to snap.
Worse, he simply walks away as if nothing has happened. He wasn’t trying to take it; all he wanted to do was damage it for his own amusement. China was incensed, and the stalagmite was appraised so that he might make amends.
