#3: Planning the “Perfect Crime”
Leopold and Loeb spent months discussing and preparing what they considered the perfect crime. They studied kidnapping procedures, arranged a rented automobile under a false identity, prepared ransom instructions, and planned ways to conceal a victim. Their goal was less financial gain than proving they could outsmart police. That confidence became their greatest weakness. The more elaborate the plan grew, the more opportunities they created for tiny mistakes to expose two supposedly flawless criminal masterminds very quickly.
