#8: The Broken Eyeglasses
Near Franks’s body, investigators discovered a pair of eyeglasses that did not belong to him. The glasses contained an unusual hinge design sold by only a limited number of Chicago opticians. Police traced purchase records until the trail reached Nathan Leopold. He initially explained that he had lost the glasses while birdwatching in the area. It sounded plausible enough briefly. Unfortunately for Leopold, investigators were beginning to discover that coincidences kept following him everywhere they looked.
