#5: Metallica — “Nothing Else Matters”
James Hetfield never meant for the public to hear such an intimate song. He wrote it in 1990 while wracked with an intense bout of homesickness on a grueling concert tour. He kept the track on a private cassette because it felt too soft for a thrash metal band. Lars Ulrich heard the tape and talked James into sharing it with the world.
