The Curious Sights of Europe

February 22, 2022 by Sara Davies

Europe is an amazing place to visit with lots of sights to see. Some are well-known, but others are not so apparent at first glance. If you enjoy getting off the beaten path or discovering something new, then this article will be perfect for you!

Some of the most interesting places in Europe are those that have been around for centuries and yet they still hold secrets even today. Whether it’s a cathedral in Rome or a castle on the border between France and Spain, there are plenty of spots where history lies waiting to be uncovered.

Here are some sights worth seeing if you’re planning a trip across Europe:

Editorial content

1) The Roman Colosseum

This is one of the best-known sites in all of Rome and has been around since the first century. It’s wonderful for all kinds of reasons, but I like to think that it presents a rare instance in which we can still see evidence of the past. It’s definitely worth seeing and even though we know what happened here, it is easy to imagine how life was back then and perhaps understand why people didn’t believe in God.

2) Stonehenge- Salisbury, England

Stonehenge is one of those wonderful locations nobody can quite figure out. It has endured for thousands of years and yet it holds secrets that not even the people who built it know about. To stand there in awe is one thing, but to think about all the time and effort required to build such a thing definitely makes you think about the people who lived in that era.

3) The Colossal Buddha of Bamiyan- Afghanistan

This is one of many Buddhas that have been destroyed since the Taliban took over. It’s unfortunate because it shows just how much hatred there can be for something that could have been prevented and how people will go to such extremes for their beliefs. Because Buddhists and Muslims were living side-by-side in Afghanistan, it is believed that the Taliban blew up this statue simply because they did not approve of its existence.

4) The Eiffel Tower

It may be one of the most visited spots in Paris, but I still think it deserves a place on this list. It’s not just a great landmark, but also a wonderful way to get an aerial view of the city and see all its beauty from above. The night views are especially fantastic and if you go high enough in the tower, you can even get a glimpse at what is going on outside Paris.

In conclusion, if you are thinking of taking a trip to Europe, then do not forget to visit these locations. They are all worth the view and have something special to offer anyone who decides to check them out.
