The Most Romantic Cities in the World

January 25, 2022 by Brandy

Everyone has their own notions about what makes a city romantic, and the answer often lies as much in the beholder as it does in any objective characteristics. But few would disagree that Paris is one of the most romantically charged cities on earth.

It may be the first city that comes to mind when thinking of romantic locales, but Paris isn’t the only world-class destination where love blooms like nowhere on earth.

Read on for a list of cities around the globe with an incomparable aura of romance about them — and why they’re renowned as such.

Editorial content

Paris, France

Everyone knows Paris is romantic – and why it’s so loved by lovers everywhere. Perhaps it’s the idyllic, cobblestone streets of the Latin Quarter lined with historic cafes and quaint bistros. Perhaps it’s because this is home to La Tour Eiffel (the most visited monument in Paris), Notre-Dame Cathedral or the meticulously manicured gardens of Monet, Van Gogh, and Miró.

Venice, Italy

Romantic gondola rides in Venice’s canals may be a cliche, but there’s a reason they’re so beloved by couples –it takes just the right combination of sun and wind for you to experience true magic cruising through the labyrinth of waterways that make up the city.

Rome, Italy

This is one of the most historic cities in Europe with millennia of art, architecture, culture, and tradition at your fingertips. The Vatican may top the list of must-sees for history buffs, but there’s no shortage of romantic spots here either. Have dinner under the stars at a rooftop trattoria overlooking the city, visit the Spanish Steps (which are often filled with lovers), and—if you can keep your hands off each other—walk in the footsteps of Julius Caesar.

Prague, Czech Republic

Not just one of the oldest cities in Europe, Prague is also one of the most beautiful. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and boasting countless gothic spires, this city’s fairy-tale skyline has graced more than 100 movies — so it should come as no surprise that its cobblestone streets are filled with storybook cafes and romantic restaurants.

Tokyo, Japan

You can feel the energy of this cosmopolitan city in every flashy neon light, high-rise tower, and trendy boutique lining the streets. If you’re looking for a place where you can do it all — from shopping to eating to drinking — look no further than Tokyo. In addition to being one of the most populous cities in the world, it’s also considered one of the safest.

As you can see there are plenty of cities around the world that feature a romantic background for you to enjoy with your partner this Valentine’s Day.
