#24: Makeup Compact, 1920s
When we used to go out partying, we never brought bags with us… We used to stuff our phones, cash, and house keys in pockets and shoes. We would do anything not to have a bag hanging off our shoulders for an entire night. And whilst it might be a little different, it seems like women used to do something similar in the 1920s…
They might not have stuffed their things inside every possible crevice, but they did try to minimize what they had to carry as much as possible. Why would anyone make a three-in-one compact with all the beauty basics otherwise? The fact that it looked like a self-defense tool could be used as a deterrent for any unwanted guest that came their way.
