#13: Basque pelota reflected regional pride on an international stage
Also part of the 1900 Olympics, Basque pelota brought a traditional sport from northern Spain and southwestern France into the spotlight. Players used a curved basket to hurl a ball against a wall at high speed. Only a small number of teams competed, limiting its impact.
