#8: Otis Boykin – Improved Electrical Resistor
Born in Dallas in 1920, Boykin invented an improved electrical resistor that was cheaper, more precise, and more reliable. This small but critical component is the secret ingredient in countless modern devices. Boykin’s resistors were essential for everything from guided missiles and IBM computers to TV and, most importantly, pacemakers. By the time of his death in 1982, he held 26 patents. His meticulous genius laid the electronic foundation for much of modern technology.
