They worshiped the sun
The answer is no. They were not tanners. The Sun god, Inti, was worshiped by the Incas as an ancestor of the Inca people. Inti was shown as a person wearing a gold mask, from which the sun’s rays were said to radiate forth. There were various sun temples in the Inca culture, most famously Machu Picchu’s Temple of the Sun.
The temples were constructed to an exacting standard, and during the Winter Solstice, the sun’s rays pass through the windows precisely. For the most part, no one knows why the Inca people constructed their temples in the manner that they did. How intriguing!
