#11: The “Healing” Theory
One popular theory suggests Stonehenge may have been seen as a place of healing, especially because the bluestones came from distant Wales and may have carried special symbolic value. Archaeologist Geoffrey Wainwright and others have compared the idea to a prehistoric Lourdes, where people traveled in hope of restoration. It is a compelling theory, not a settled fact. Stonehenge keeps doing this: offering just enough evidence to make a theory plausible, then refusing to sign the confession.
