One careless push can send a person farther and faster than intended. Movement through the station depends on handrails, fingertip pressure, foot loops, and an instinctive understanding that every action produces a reaction. Astronauts learn to travel smoothly without kicking equipment, striking a colleague, or scattering whatever that colleague is holding. In a narrow passage, the person already performing a task generally receives room to finish, while someone approaching may pause, announce a direction, or choose another route.
