#19: Firefighters and the Word Nobody Wants to Hear
Firehouse humor can be dry, practical, and a little superstitious, especially during long shifts when the alarm has been quiet for a while. That is exactly when someone learns not to say the word “quiet.” Like paramedics and ER staff, firefighters often treat it as a jinx, not because anyone truly believes language starts fires, but because calm can vanish in one sharp bell. The rule gives the crew something to tease each other about while also acknowledging the strange rhythm of the job: waiting, resting lightly, checking equipment, then moving fast with no warning.
