#2: A City Born from a Broken Train
Some settlements owe their existence to little more than bad luck. Near what would later become Cliff, New Mexico, a major train breakdown in a remote area once forced passengers and crew to remain for weeks, prompting makeshift facilities that gradually became permanent structures. Over time, supply routes adapted, businesses followed, and a town emerged from what started as an inconvenience. It is a reminder of how infrastructure can unexpectedly shape geography.
