#38: The Mysterious Drowning of Natalie Wood
It isn’t every day that a famous Hollywood actress dies from a drowning accident. In 1981 when Rebel Without a Cause actress Natalie Wood was found floating in the water nearby the “Splendour”, her husband and famous actor’s boat, Robert Wagner, the world was shocked. Whilst filming the movie Brainstorm with fellow actor Christopher Walken, Wood invited him to join her and her husband on their boat for a few days. The time spent on the boat seemed to be a good time with everyone always with a drink in hand. But one night, things seemed to get a little bit out of hand, and their lives changed forever.
Whilst filming together, many said that Christopher Walken had developed rather strong feelings for Wood. The night Natalie died, people in nearby boats claimed to have heard Wagner and Walken fighting over something. Some people even say that they heard a woman scream, “Help me! Someone help me!” but nothing ever came of that. Wagner claims that he didn’t realize his wife was missing until 1:30, when he went to bed when he alerted the coast guard, and Wood was found 6 hours later. Her death was officially ruled to be a drowning accident and hypothermia however, many people, including her own sister, refuse to believe that she would have ever willingly gone into the water due to her great fear of water. When she was younger, she used to be afraid to wash her hair due to a fear of drowning… Her death is still a mystery.
