#7: The Circleville Letters
Nothing is more disconcerting than when you feel you are being followed or watched. And in 1976, several people that lived in a small city near Columbus, Ohio, began receiving hauntingly graphic and detailed handwritten letters. These letters were detailed with personal and secretive parts of each person’s lives, making matters even creepier. The two main victims, Mary and Ron Gillispie received detailed letters stating that this person had been watching their every move. Mary was the first to receive the letters; shortly after, Ron began receiving them too.
In 1977, Ron was found dead in his truck after taking a phone call with who he thought was the letter writer… After this, letters and different forms of harassment continued in the form of road signs. In 1983 Mary attempted to remove one road sign designed to kill whoever attempted dismantling it, but she somehow remained unscathed. An investigation started, and Mary’s brother-in-law was sentenced to 25 years in jail. However, even with her brother-in-law in prison, people were still receiving letters up until 1994.
