#19: Berenice IV of Egypt – About 18 years old
Berenice IV took the throne of Egypt after angry crowds exiled her father, Ptolemy XII, from Alexandria in 58 BC. She was about 18 and initially ruled with her mother. After her mother’s death, Berenice governed alone. Realizing her position was weak, she tried to find a powerful husband to help her secure the crown. It was a race against time she ultimately lost. Her father was not done. He got military support from the Romans and marched back into Egypt in 55 BC. He reclaimed his throne and, in a final, brutal act of power, ordered his own daughter Berenice to be executed.
