#17: No Helmets for Bikers
If these slides have taught us anything, it’s that general concern for health and safety just wasn’t a top priority for people in the 1960s. It’s little wonder, then, that bicycle helmets just weren’t a thing. I mean, if cars didn’t even have seatbelts, then bike helmets seem pretty insignificant! It was a normal sight to see a gang of kids roaming through the neighborhood on their bikes without helmets or adults commuting to work or around the city on their bikes, no helmet in tow. Today, it’s illegal in some places to ride without one.
