We’d like to think that for a while at least, doctors simply didn’t realize how negatively impactful cigarettes were to your health. I mean, doctors were just as crazy about smoking as any other person. But we don’t doubt that cigarette companies nicely padded their pockets when doctors consented to recommend one brand of ciggies over another. It does seem like an abuse of authority and trust between doctor and patient that simply wouldn’t fly in today’s social landscape!
