#6: A Council Prepared for the Invasion
Organizers knew the approaching summer could become a humanitarian crisis. The Council for the Summer of Love formed to coordinate food, housing, medical care, sanitation, and communication while countering hostile press coverage. Its very existence revealed that the season was not simply an accidental party. Community leaders anticipated thousands of arrivals and attempted to build support before schools closed. Unfortunately, volunteer planning could not fully manage the crowd created by national publicity and popular music.
