#8: The Jimi Hendrix House Story Is Complicated
A purple-painted building at 1524 Haight Street is often promoted as a former Jimi Hendrix residence, but evidence that he actually lived there is lacking. Hendrix certainly performed in San Francisco and became closely associated with the 1967 scene after Monterey Pop. The address’s later connection appears to owe more to local legend and commercial mythology than confirmed tenancy. Haight-Ashbury produced so many stories that eventually even buildings began acquiring celebrity biographies of their own.
