#15: The Alleged Bush Car-Bomb Plot — 1993
During former president George H. W. Bush’s April 1993 visit to Kuwait, authorities arrested seventeen people accused of involvement in a car-bomb plot against him. American investigators concluded that Iraqi intelligence had supported the plan, although later analyses questioned portions of the forensic case. President Bill Clinton responded by ordering missile strikes against Iraqi intelligence headquarters in Baghdad. The episode showed how threats against former presidents could still trigger major international consequences and military retaliation.
