#18: Still Not Entirely Wrong
Another story about an American saying something ridiculous to an Australian, and another situation where I am surprised to find myself defending the American, at least a little bit. Obviously, gravity does not work the opposite in Australia, and I imagine the American knew that, because surely he wasn’t thinking that Australians have to tether themselves to the ground to keep from floating up into the sky.
But maybe the American was thinking of the Coriolis force, which acts differently on objects based on where they are on earth. Of course, the idea that water swirls down your bathroom sink in the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere has been entirely disproved, but I think it’s very possible that’s what the American was thinking of.
