#40: Let Freedom Ring
You may not know it if you’re not American, but the 4th of July is a huge deal here. It’s a time when we get to legally set off fireworks (and start the occasional wildfire), where we grill hamburgers and hot dogs even though it’s the hottest part of the year and standing outside next to a grill is torture, and where we all gather along Main Street to watch parades full of high school marching bands and floats sponsored by local banks. What’s not to like?
So can you really be surprised that we want to spread the 4th of July love to other countries? We want you to have the chance to accidentally set your neighbor’s roof on fire with a semi-legal firework. Ha, obviously I’m kidding, the real reason is that some Americans don’t realize that not everyone wants to celebrate America all the time.
