#2: I’ve Got You Under My Skin — Bono
Sinatra’s 1956 Nelson Riddle arrangement of this Cole Porter standard is one of the most celebrated recordings in the American songbook. Bono recorded his version for Sinatra’s Duets album in 1993 without being in the same room as Sinatra, each recording their part separately. The finished track brought a rock energy to the arrangement while the orchestration kept it anchored to Sinatra’s template. Bono added an improvised passage that directly referenced Sinatra himself, which was either audacious or exactly right depending on your tolerance for audacity.
