#19: Silicone Implant Fears Turned Into a Legal Disaster
During the 1990s, many lawsuits claimed silicone breast implants caused immune diseases and other serious illnesses. Public fear grew rapidly, and manufacturer Dow Corning eventually declared bankruptcy. However, a large medical review in 1998 found no strong evidence connecting implants to those diseases. The controversy became an example of panic outpacing scientific evidence.
