#8: The Chernobyl Disaster Was Caused by Human Error
On April 26, 1986, operators at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Soviet Ukraine disabled safety systems during a reactor test. The resulting explosion released massive amounts of radiation across Europe. Thousands later died or suffered health problems. The accident exposed major flaws in Soviet engineering practices and became the world’s worst nuclear disaster.
