#17: The Tunguska Explosion Over Siberia in 1908

The Tunguska event occurred in 1908 when an asteroid or comet fragment exploded above Siberia before reaching the ground. The blast flattened thousands of square kilometers of forest and released enormous energy. Because the region was sparsely populated, casualties were avoided, though the explosion demonstrated nature’s destructive potential clearly.
