The Roman Emperor created the Praetorian Guard for personal security, but these soldiers preferred playing politics. In 193 CE, a strict reformer named Pertinax took the throne and tried to stop the Guard’s financial corruption. The angry protectors broke into the palace, murdered the emperor, and took his head through the streets.
