#14: Sigeric & The Visigothic Kingdom (415 CE)
Sigeric was an elite warrior trusted to protect the Visigothic King Athaulf. In 415 CE, Sigeric helped plan the king’s assassination and took the throne for himself. He started a reign of domestic terror and executed Athaulf’s young children from a previous marriage. He even forced the widowed queen to walk barefoot for miles alongside other prisoners. His cruelty shocked his own people, and his reign lasted only seven days before he met his own end.
