Tips for First Time Hang Gliding

August 22, 2021 by Joni

Hang gliding is a sport in which the pilot flies by hanging underneath a fabric wing and harness. It’s safer than other types of aviation, but it can still be quite dangerous.

Before you take to the skies for your first time, there are some things that you should know:

Make sure to find an instructor who has experience with beginners and who has had training on how to teach people new to hang gliding. They’ll make sure everything goes smoothly.

Pick out an experienced instructor or school with a good reputation so that you have someone else available if something does happen while you’re up in the air. Make sure they offer emergency service as well! You don’t want to be left stranded high above the ground.

The first time you are up in the air, you’ll have to spend a lot of time dealing with equipment. You can easily get distracted and if your instructor isn’t ready for that, things could go wrong.

The best way is to practice a little more while on the ground before flying for real. You should be comfortable with how everything fits and feels. That way, you can focus on the sky instead of the equipment while in flight.

If you’re not comfortable with the harness or anything else but are determined to fly anyway, try another day when you feel more confident. It’s always better to be patient and wait for a time that is right for you rather than going out unprepared.

It’s better to practice with your instructor before flying on your own for the first time, but make sure you’re comfortable with your skills!

Someone who isn’t experienced or skilled enough endangers everyone around them. If it’s taking too long until they are ready to fly by themselves, wait a while and try again later.

Hang Gliding with Someone Else

You probably don’t want to get into the pilot’s seat and take off alone for your first time. Unless you’re very experienced, it’s safer if someone can spot you in case of trouble.

It’s important that everyone who will be taking a trip with you communicate regarding their experience level. If one of your passengers is on their first time hang gliding trip, it’s best if they have a very experienced pilot.

If everyone knows what to expect in advance, there shouldn’t be any problems at all.

After you’ve done your first time hang gliding flight with someone else, try doing one by yourself! Just remember that you should take off and land close to an instructor, and you should always be safe.

You now know what to expect the first time you are up in the air for your hang gliding. Make sure to find an instructor who knows about beginners, to ensure success. There’s no need to be worried – just believe in yourself and go for it!
