#10: The Historic District of Charleston
Pastel houses, narrow lanes, church steeples, hidden gardens, and harbor views encourage the kind of wandering that looks effortless in travel photographs. Summer adds a different layer. Coastal humidity settles between the buildings, and an occasional breeze may disappear after turning one corner. Charleston’s historic center is compact enough to explore on foot, but a guided tour at noon can feel far longer than the same route early in the morning. Waterfront Park and the Battery offer open views, while museums, historic houses, galleries, and restaurants provide natural pauses.
